Chez Bismilah SAND Coffee
About This Spot
Stepping into Chez Bismilah SAND Coffee feels like slipping into a quiet corner of Marrakesh’s vibrant Medina — a gentle pause amid the city’s colorful bustle. This tucked-away café offers a serene refuge where time seems to soften, inviting you to slow down and savor a moment suspended between tradition and small, personal discovery.
The air here carries a subtle blend of warm spices and freshly brewed arabica, a scent that gently draws you closer to the heart of the experience. Watching the coffee master prepare each cup over heated Merzouga Sahara sand is an intimate ritual to witness — a slow, graceful dance of patience and skill as the rich coffee foams to life. It’s less about hurry and more about the connection between craft and comfort, reminding visitors that the simple act of making coffee can be quietly enchanting.
Upstairs, the rooftop terrace offers a calm perch above the market’s lively rhythm. Here, you can breathe in the medina’s textures — the bargaining voices drifting up like a distant music track, the warm breeze balancing the sun’s midday heat. This calm, airy setting invites relaxed conversations or reflective pauses, pairing perfectly with the café’s unique brews.
More than just the drink, Chez Bismilah feels defined by its human moments. The owner’s warmth and genuine willingness to share the story behind each cup unfolds naturally, creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels personal rather than touristy. Whether you’re savoring the smooth textures of the café turquie or discovering subtle spicy notes rarely found elsewhere, the experience is less about the perfect cup and more about tasting something rooted in place and tradition.
For those who stumble upon this hidden gem, the pleasure extends beyond coffee itself. A small collection of fragrant spice blends and essential oils offers a sensory souvenir — a reminder of the calm and care that mark every visit here. Chez Bismilah isn’t just a stop for a drink; it’s a quiet invitation to connect with Marrakesh’s slower moments and the simple joys simmering in the city’s everyday rhythms.

Fun experience, not the best cup of coffee I’ve had but certainly the most uniquely brewed! Make sure to not drink the sludge, just the liquid floating in top of it.

Wonderful little coffee shop tucked away in a cranny of the Marrakech madness. Watch the coffee master brew your coffee on heated Merzouga Sahara sand as it foams - not bubbles - in front of your eyes. Then relax on his rooftop terrace as the hawkers barter below and you savor the aroma and flavor of this special spiced coffee. Be sure to buy a kit of the spice to take home.

Such a wonderful little café with traditional Arabic sand coffee. An absolute joy to watch and afterwards enjoy in the calm and peaceful atmosphere of the roof terrace (nice and breezy too, perfect for these hot days in the Medina). The owner is the kindest person and I will definitely come back on my return to Marrakech.

I really enjoyed my time at the coffee shop and am glad I randomly found it. It was nice to see the coffee made right in front of me using Merzouga Sand. The owner is very nice and helpful describing the coffees. The barista is kind and really knows how to make the process look appealing. As for the coffee, I liked the tastes especially the Yemeni Coffee which is so hard to find. Had great hints of berry! I drank on the streets of the Medina which was such a nice feel and went upstairs to the terrace to have some nice panoramic views of the Medina

My mum and I stumbled on this little cafe while being wandering through the streets. The lovely gentleman attracted us with his nice approach, plus I never say no to coffee The way he makes the coffee makes it so smooth and full. We loved chatting with him and got good tips. We left with essential oils roll-ons too. Smells sooo good.

Best coffee in Marrakech! Skip the basic places trying to appease Western coffee drinkers and have a unique experience and drink it spiced how locals do at home. The sand coffee demonstration is so cool and the owner and staff are so sweet and fun. I recommend this place to anyone visiting Marrakech. Thanks to our tour guide Noura from Morocco Private Expert for bringing us here!

We had a wonderful experience between Terrasse Bakchich and Sand Coffee Chez Dishilah. We got our coffee from Sand Coffee Chez Dishilah and then sat on the balcony terrace at Terrasse Bakchich, the one with the owner’s photo, which has such a nostalgic and authentic atmosphere. At Terrasse Bakchich, we ordered the Berber omelette with homemade butter and hot, fresh bread. Everything was delicious, simple, and full of traditional flavor. The whole experience felt very local and welcoming, not touristy at all. Great coffee, great food, and a beautiful old-medina vibe. We would definitely come back.
